Put the dates in a bowl of warm water and purée with a stick blender. Set aside.In a pan, combine all ingredients except the almonds.Bring to a boil, stirring all the while. Reduce heat to very low, cover and cook for 20 minutes.Remove cover and cook for another 10 minutes.Remove from heat and stir in almonds.Serve with roast chicken, pork or grilled steak.
