Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
Beat salted margarine sticks in a large bowl with an electric mixer until foamy, about 3 minutes.
Beat in sugar and vanilla until pale and frothy, craping the sides of the bowl occasionally, about 2 minutes.
Stir in flour, beating at low speed until well blended.
Spread dough evenly in a 13 x 9 inch (33 x 23 cm) baking dish.
Bake for 25 minutes or until dough is firm and golden.
Cool for 15 minutes on wire rack.
Cut into 36 pieces, about 2½ x 1 in. (6 x 2.5 cm).
Remove from baking dish and let cool completely.
