In a bowl, dissolve sugar in 1/2 cup (125 mL) warm water. Stir in yeast and let it foam. If yeast does not foam, it is no longer good. Throw it out and start over.In a large bowl, mix salt with half of the flour, make a well in the middle and pour yeast, oil and remaining water into it.Work liquids into flour, gradually adding remaining flour and shaping the dough into a ball.Knead dough about 8 minutes.Place dough in a lightly oiled glass or ceramic bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise 1 hour at room temperature.Preheat oven to 400°F/200°C.Punch dough down, divide in two and shape into two balls.Working from the centre out, push down with palms on a ball shaping it into a 12-in. (30-cm) disk.
