Host an Eco-Friendly Party
Cut down on waste at your next party with these 10 great tips on going green.
10 green tips for an eco-friendly party
1Send an e-mail invitation, create a Facebook event or phone your guests to invite them. If it is going to be a formal affair and proper etiquette dictates that you should send invitations by mail, make sure you use recycled paper.
2Avoid using disposable paper plates. If you are concerned that your plates might break when entertaining outside, opt instead for plastic plates that you can wash and reuse — and it will save you money for your next get-together!
3Choose a washable fabric or plastic tablecloth.
4Whenever possible, use local produce and fair trade coffee.
5Serve fresh tap water rather than bottled water. A colourful pitcher adds a nice touch to any table setting.
6Avoid waste by preparing a reasonable quantity of food. We always worry that we won't have enough, but keep in mind that your guests will appreciate moderate portions.
7Think about placing a recycling bin in plain view next to the garbage bin. It's a great way to encourage your guests to recycle.
8Use biodegradable soap when washing dishes, tea towels, tablecloths and napkins.
9An eco-party is even greener when celebrated outdoors sans air conditioning. Weather permitting of course!
10Hand out prizes to guests who have walked, cycled, carpooled or bussed their way to your party. It will encourage your friends and family to go green, too!
