Place the dates in a saucepot and add the water.

Preheat the oven at 375° F.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and the salt.
Add the oatmeal, brown sugar and the butter.
Mix until all is combined and has a grainy texture.
Spread half of the flour mixture in the bottom of a buttered dish.
Spread the cooked dates on top and top with the rest of the flour/oatmeal mix.
Bake for 25 minutes.
Remove from the oven and let it cool before cutting them into squares.
