Some 2500 years ago, October 31 was the last day of the Celtic calendar. It was the time to celebrate the end of the harvests and the beginning of nature's well-deserved long sleep. Halloween became the celebration of the dead in an attempt to frighten away any bad spirits that might try to prevent spring from returning at the end of winter. This is how the "Eve of All Saints Day", or "All Hallow's Eve" as it was called, finally became Halloween...
